Connection Settings with Shiva PPP.
Locate the Shivappp.ini file in the Internet Explorer directory (usually
c:\iexplore). Open the file with an editor (i.e. notepad). Under the [Dial-In
Configuration] section add the following: DialString=ATX3D Save the file without changing
its name.
Upon opening Internet Explorer for the first time it will ask you to
provide the name of the ISP you use. (If this does not happen you can provide this
information by clicking the 'Get on the Internet' icon.)
In the 'Setup Options' choose 'Manual'. Follow the instructions that are
provided, and fill in the information needed.
Make sure the options 'Use Country and Area/City
Code' are disabled, and in the 'Telephone Number' field
fill in 8962555555.
Note
If you are from Sparti, Poligiros, Trikala, Tripoli, Kefallonia,
Agrinio and if your line is supported by the wireless SAR
system you sould dial 8962555155 rather than 8962555555.
For the 'Internet Mail' settings fill in your Name in the Full Name field,
in the e-mail address field fill in your your e-mail address which is: username@OTENET.gr
(i.e. If your username is jim then your e-mail address is: jim@OTENET.gr)
In the 'Incoming Mail Server' field fill in 'mail.OTENET.gr' and in the 'Outgoing
Mail Server' field fill in 'mailgate.OTENET.gr'
When the Internet News program prompts for the 'News' fill in
news.OTENET.gr
Before dialing for the first time you will have to choose 'Properties'
from the window and check the 'Bring up terminal window after dialing'. Then from the
first window choose 'Dial Settings' and check the appropriate box depending on the type of
line you have 'Tone Dialing' or 'Pulse Dialing'.
You are now ready to connect to the Internet! Each time you want to
connect to OTENET you will have to open the Icon you just created and click on 'Connect'.
When you connect to OTENET you will see a window asking for your username
type in your username and press enter, then you will be asked for your password type in
your password and press enter. Now you will see the Options:
1. enter PPP mode
2. enter SLIP mode
9. EXIT and HANG-UP
Press 1 and press enter, and you are ready to open your Web Browser (i.e.
Internet Explorer, Netscape)
* Your e-mail address is xxxxxxxx@OTENET.gr where the xxxxxxxx's represent
your username.
Connecting with Trumpet
Winsock v.3.
Open the Trumpet icon and select File - Setup. In the IP Address field
type 0.0.0.0 (OTENET automatically assigns an IP Address) and in the DNS Servers field
type in 195.170.0.2. In the same window choose PPP as the Driver and then click on the
Dialer Settings
Choose the COM Port that you have connected your modem to (i.e. COM1 or
COM2). If you have a 28800 modem select 57600 as the Baud Rate. If you have a 33600 or 56K
select 115200 as the Baud Rate.
To connect to the Internet click on Dialer and select
Manual Login. The program will inform you that PPP Disabled.
Type in ATX3 and press Enter. Then type ATDT8962555555 if
you have a Tone based line OR ATDP8962555555 if you have
a Pulse based telephone line. By doing this the computer
will dial OTENET.
Note
If you are from Sparti, Poligiros, Trikala, Tripoli, Kefallonia,
Agrinio and if your line is supported by the wireless SAR
system you sould dial 8962555155 rather than 8962555555.
After a successful connection a pop window
will ask for your Username and Password, type them in respectively
and pressing enter. You will now see the following options:
1. enter PPP mode
2. enter SLIP mode
9. EXIT and HANG-UP
Select 1 and press enter and then the ESC button. You are now ready to
open your Web Browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Netscape)
To disconnect from OTENET select Dialer and then Bye.
Installing Trumpet Winsock 3 and possible
problems.
If you haven't installed Trumpet Winsock 3, you will have to find
the twsk30c.exe file and run it. This file contains all the necessary files to use Trumpet
Winsock, this is a self extracting file. After executing it use the File Manager to select
Install and follow the instructions.
In case you cannot establish a connection check the following parameters:
Open the Trumpet Icon and select File - Setup. Verify that the settings
are as follows: MTU 1500 TCP RWIN 2048 TCP MSS 512 TCP RTO MAX 60.
If you are still having problems connecting try adding different Initialization Strings to
your Modem (Check your Modem manual for further details).
Connecting with Trumpet Winsock 2.1.
When opening the program for the first time the setup wizard starts. If it
doesn't select File - Setup.
In the IP Address field type in 0.0.0.0 and in the Name Server 195.170.0.2
in the same window select Internal PPP and for a Slip Port the COM port you installed your
modem on and finally select the Baud Rate supported by your modem. Hit the OK button and
your on your way.
To connect to the Internet click on Dialer and select
Manual Login. The program will inform you that PPP Disabled.
Type in ATX3 and press Enter. Then type ATDT8962555555 if
you have a Tone based line OR ATDP8962555555 if you have
