Inactivity when receiving e-mails
Symptom:
When you was downloading your
e-mails you were disconnected. Since then when you download your e-mail the mailer program
you use seems to be inactive for very long time when trying to download a specific mail.
Probably that message is corrupted. A problem like this is more usual when the message is
too large and your connection is not so stable.
Solution:
You have to delete this message in
your mailbox following this instruction.
Important Note: Before deleting any
message, ensure that the settings in your mail program are correct and that your problem
is exactly as described above.
First of all close your mail
program (Outlook, Netscape Messenger, Eudora etc) and wait for 15 minutes.
Click on Start menu on your
desktop. Click on Run.

Type in the window that appears
telnet mail.OTENET.gr 110

Press OK.
The following window will appear:

If you’re using
telnet program for the first time, select Local echo so that you see what you are typing
in this window. To do so click Terminal and then click on Preferences. Select Local Echo
and click OK.

Now you are ready to directly
connect to your mailbox.
Write “user your username” in
the telnet window and press Enter. Then write “pass your password” and press Enter as
it is shown in the following screen.

If you’ ve done everything
correctly, you will see a sentence like:
“OK “you username” has x
messages (xxxxxx octets).”
That means that you are connected
to your mailbox.
Type list and press Enter to see
the list of the messages you have. You just see the number of the message on the left and
the size of the message on the right.

In this example the user has 3
messages. The first message is1293384 octets in size, the second 1772 octets in size and
the third 2320 octets in size.
We can delete a specific message by
typing dele message number and press Enter. For example if the problem caused by the first
message we can delete it by typing dele 1 as it is shown in the following screen.

You can now close the telnet
program and download the rest of your messages.
